1) audience, always keep your target audience in mind - the point of view as a professional may be different of that of a users. Be sure to update your website and add new pages frequent enough.
- optimise your search
- Don't ignore users
2) layout, cluttered websites are visually confusing; the viewer doesn't know where to direct their attention. A well-organised layout helps guide the viewer where you want them to go.
- Don't create a cluttered layout
- Do create a focal point
3) colour scheme, Using too many colours will make your website design clash. Colours have strong psychological impact, and they will affect a viewer's opinion of your brand. If you're unsure how many colours to use, the rule of thumb says your design should not use more than three colours. If you're working with a brand palette, you might be able to use more, as long as you balance them well. Your website's colours should reflect the brand, complement the content, and visually delight viewers.
- Don't use all of the colours
- Do use colour combos that enhance your content
4) text placement, Just like the layout, you don't want the design to be cluttered with text.
Do make it easily scan-able
Don't fill the page with long paragraphs
5) search and navigation, don't make it hard for users to find what they need
Do set up proper navigation
6) font's, Don't use too many fonts
Do select the right font sizes
7) images, Don't use too many images
Do make it visually attractive
8) mobile capability,Don't forget to optimise for mobile
Do test for functionality
9) conventional vs unique design, Do test for functionality
Don't forget to optimise for mobile
10) test it out, Don't forget to take it for a test drive
Do think like a CEO
examples of websites and the techniques used:
LINGsCARS is a website that sells cars, and is actually a legit website for selling cars even though it looks sketchy. The business had been on dragons den beforehand and that got the company more traction and more buyers.
The website has multiple options of what to do, it is very interactive with multiple pages.

https://www.lingscars.com/
On the first page there is a lot of information however all of the patterns and design choices make all of the text, pages and all of the other pop-ups blend in and make all of the options hard to see.
The colour scheme and the patterned designs give the impression that the website isn't professional and make this website less appealing to look at since all of the colours clash together.
Even though the layout of the website isn't the most organised, it still give all the information needed and actually tell you about the products that they are selling.
In the website there are a lot of interactivity for the audience as when you hover over certain objects, text, images some of them move, change colour or show another option of interactivity.
This website has really good interactivity and information, not all of the information is needed but it does make it interesting for a audience to look and play with.
Even if this website doesn't look it, it is really professional in the whole content and the appearance of the website gives the website the attention for it to keep running and get people to actually buy the products.
So even if it looks unprofessional for its appearance, it is actually a design choice and is on purpose.
In the website, it has games and quizzes which make it fun for the potential buyers of the company and even if they don't buy anything from them they may still come to the website for fun and to look at the new things they have on the website.
In LINGsCARS they tell you about the company and ling (the person running the website).
This is good for a website as it tells the audience more about the company and whether they trust the company by knowing the person running the company.
And having this element makes the company more reliable since not all websites have this and having this in a website makes the company seem more professional
In the levels of the Do's and Don'ts this website doesn't follow the rules of most other websites as it is:
cluttered - the layout is very busy there is a lot going on which makes it visually confusing.
there are a lot of colours going on in the design which makes the whole website clash.
the text placement is all over the place which does make it hard to read since the text is close together which does also make the design clash.
there are some navigation points which are hard to find since nothing actually stands out due to the busy layout of the website.
there are a lot of images close together which also makes it clash a lot and doesn't make it visually appealing.
The Factory Warehouse Website
nearby me there is a store called the factory warehouse, for this research i decided to take a look at the shops website.
i figured that looking into a website of a place i can go to often would be good as i could then see if it matches the actual company/ shop.
the first thing you see when you go on this website is some of the products and prices/ discounts you get on the items being sold.
the colours in general are the same as the shops indoor theme and logo of the store.
the initial design isn't too appealing as there are few colours and not a lot of interesting content to look at but it does the job of informing you what there are.
the overall design of the website is very plain and as you scroll down you do notice that there isn't very much variety in the design or colours.
if i were in charge of this website, i would change the design and the colour choice as it is quite bland and not very pleasing to the eye (this is just my opinion, i feel that more variety of colours would make it more interesting to see as an audience)the target audience of this website would be adults who are looking for a variety of different items however the design of this website doesn't show how much the store offers in products.

the website does show some variety in the items shown in the website however i think that they could have shown more variety in the products shown as the store has gardening supplies, cooking, sweets, arts and crafts, clothes and toys but it doesn't show those items it just shows the homely items.
the colouring of this isn't too much as it isn't all that saturated and the website does do the task of advertising their products but i don't think it advertises it the way most companies do as they advertise a wide range of products they sell and this website doesn't so i don't think the website does exactly what they're wanting it to.
the website does have other pages which have the same theme and design of the home page and do have other content like video and some pages do show more variety but more on the front page would have been good.in conclusion this website isn't the best but it does have some goo qualities to it even if they aren't noticeable at the beginning
carpentry website 1:
As for looking into a website that correlates with my chosen
website subject, I found a website called:
In this website it is highly professional and showcases the
work they had been previously working on and tells you about their company and
has an online application.
The colour schemes
this website follows is black white and grey colours – I think they chose this
colour scheme because any colours could go with this scheme they have and this
is good because in their gallery there are a variety of colours.
for my website i have been heavily influenced by the carpentry website - DJ carpentry solutions
the layout of the website is good and looks highly professional which is something i wanted to make my website as.
another carpentry website i looked at was Avery carpentry:
https://www.averycarpentry.co.uk/

another carpentry website i looked at was Avery carpentry:
https://www.averycarpentry.co.uk/
this website is very professional, the colour scheme is satisfying to the eye and they do contrast with each-other to make the text more clear and visible.
the home page gives you the details of where they work and how to get in touch.
the about us page gives you information about when they started up the business, and about the person who started it in the first place.
the colours are still follow the colour scheme of the websites home page which gives it the impression that the website is uniformed
on the services page it gives examples of the places they could help with and what they can help you with for example:
roofing, window's, kitchen fitting etc
this page it also states that they more that 20 years of experience in the carpentry business.
the colour scheme is consistent on this page as well, the colours being white, blue, grey and black.
on this page it show's the people reading the website what they have previously worked on, this is good on a website as it gives the buyers a sight into the quality of the products.
the colour scheme is still very consistent which gives it a sense of stability in the website
evaluation for the research page:
what i did well in making this page:
in making this page the things i feel went well was the analysis of the websites as i felt i could analyse them and take inspiration from them.
another thing that i the beginning of the page where i talked about the do's and don'ts of making a website was good as the information was thorough and was explained well.
things i think i need to improve:
the things i think that i need to improve are the amount of websites i analysed as i would have liked to have looked at a few more carpentry websites.
i also think i could have compared the websites more to figure out the conventions of a carpentry website.
what i have learnt:
from making this page i have learnt how to analyse a website to an extent that i can learn from that website as well as get inspiration from that website.
i have also learnt what other website can be like for example the lingscars website as that one is very over the top and colourful which not all websites have which does make the website unique to other ones which look very professional.
also while making this page for my project, i have learnt what the do's and don'ts are when making a website and i found it highly useful as i took that into consideration when making my website.
